For thirteen centuries, Rivendell has stood as as stronghold against the power of Sauron as well as providing sanctuary for Elves and elf-friends. Founded and governed by Elrond, it is the place in which the boy Aragorn grew to manhood. It is situated halfway between the Witch-realm of Angmar to the north and Isengard to the south (Dickerson, 2006b, p. 573).
